Living in Atlantic offers residents the comfort of living in a small town with quick, easy access to metropolitan areas. We are an hour from Des Moines and Omaha, and offer a low cost of living. We have three senior living/care facilities, 16 churches, and host over 25 events a year, offering opportunities to volunteer or engage in community with family and friends.

When walking our downtown district, Chestnut Street, you will see 85 buildings with a 90% occupancy rate. These storefronts are home to a mix of industry including retail, service, and restaurants as well as upper-story housing. Our vibrant downtown has something for everyone.

We boast two 18-hole golf courses, a miniature golf course, disc golf course, bowling alley, public library, state-of-the-art YMCA, outdoor swimming pool, splash pad, 12 parks, seven bike trails totaling 28.3 miles, and Schildberg Recreation Area, complete with a quarry, fishing, camping and walking/biking paths.

Cass Health, Atlantic’s largest employer, is an award-winning rural hospital (National Top 20 Critical Access Hospital) that offers Family Medicine, OB Labor & Delivery, more than 25 Specialty Clinics, and continues to grow. We are also home to a Police Department, Sheriff’s Department, Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) offering residents easily accessible, quick help when an emergency strikes.
Educational opportunities, preschool through post-grad
Education is a priority in Atlantic, home to three preschools and the Atlantic Community School District, which serves K-12 students. Iowa Western Community College’s Atlantic campus also offers postsecondary and non-traditional learners valuable opportunities to advance their careers.
